Plone Conference Bristol 2010 identity
Tasked to come up with an identity for the upcoming Plone Conference 2010, to be hosted this year in Bristol by Netsight, I recently had the pleasure of working with Bristol-based illustrator Ben Newman.
My brief to Ben was to create an assemblage of all the iconic aspects of Bristol as a collage of colour-blocked cut-out silhouettes — stuff like boats, hot air balloons, dockside cranes, the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Cabot Tower, Concorde, Brunel’s stovepipe hat, the omnipresent Police helicopter(!) — essentially a visual distillation of what Bristol is all about, reflecting its technological, industrial and cultural heritage. I felt it was important on this job to commission an illustrator with local knowledge — Ben’s graphic style was perfect for the ‘rustic modernist’ approach I was looking for and his interpretation of the brief was spot on.
Ben’s work has resulted in a flexible suite of iconography that has been applied to a website promoting the event alongside a range of collateral material such as poster, banners and t-shirts.
Plone Conference 2010 will be taking place in Bristol from the 25th – 31st October 2010, drawing some of the most experienced people globally within the Plone community to talk about new developments with this powerful Open Source content management system and discussing new techniques and products.
