G RAID Mini
I am looking for something to handle my file storage requirements when shooting on location and I think I may have found the answer.

The G-RAID mini from G-TECH weighs just 1.15 lbs yet packs up to 500GB into it’s compact 5.875” x 3.25” x 1.5” aluminium enclosure.

Designed for mobile content creation applications, it would appear to be an ideal storage solution for travelling with large amounts of data or for audio/video editing on the go.

Banana Juice

The Japanese seem to have this thing about packaging that imitates natural materials — it’s a characteristic that is nicely documented here in this article on PingMag.

Although not featured in that article, these banana juice cartons by Naoto Fukasawa have got to be one of my favorite examples of this trend.

Michael Dweck - Mermaids

Michael Dweck is a photographer who’s timeless images have appeared in Vanity Fair, French Vogue, Esquire, Oyster, Black & White, and many other publications. Notable for his photographs capturing the vanishing surf culture of Montauk, a sleepy fishing village that in the 1970s became a haven for East Coast surfers, who, if Michael’s images are to be believed, were inclined towards surfing naked..! ;-)

The above images are from a collection called Mermaids.

http://www.iainclaridge.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/monocle_online.jpg

I have criticised Monocle magazine in this blog for it’s editorial but there is no denying it is a beautifully crafted publication with immaculate attention to detail in its layout and stunning use of photography. It also uses illustration to great effect and its infographics are beautifully conceived. All this has been faithfully reflected in the online version of the magazine — it certainly does not disappoint from an aesthetic perspective.

The man responsible for this, designer Dan Hill, has given a comprehensive account of the process behind creating the Monocle website in a lengthy blog article so grab your favourite beverage, kick back and read all about it.

My only gripe would be the decision to use images for text headings — whilst admittedly Plantin is a lovely typeface and I can see the reasoning from an aesthetic point of view it must be a bit of a nightmare in terms of content administration, not to mention the accessibility and SEO implications — surely these are valid reasons for use of sIFR.

Attik - Noise Five

Attik have announced the imminent release of the latest in their series of occasional monographs, NoiseFive.

They are apparently only printing 2000 copies so if you want one you had better nip over quick to the Noise blog to register your interest — and whilst you are there you can reminisce over previous editions of the Noise series.

Noise is described by Attik as “the space in which we experiment, creating new avenues for us to explore… without the limitations or practical parameters of the commercial world“.

Whilst these big design studio monographs are often dismissed by some as self indulgent doodlings, I personally have always enjoyed flipping through previous editions of Noise, so I look forward to receiving my complimentary review copy in due course..! (Well it’s worth a try…hehe..!)
