Ellen von Unwerth has always been one of my favourite photographers. I really like the spontaneous ‘anti-technique’ approach she employs in her work and this is particularly evident in this photograph shown in a recent feature in The Guardian - Ellen von Unwerth’s best shot.
“I love a picture that surprises you: you try to get everything perfect, then somehow it ends up looking wrong. That’s why I love this one. It was taken with a Polaroid, one of those beautiful things that no longer exist. The light has caused the blurriness, giving the shot extra emotion. There’s something eerie about it, too: the girl’s expression is both vulnerable and strong.”

Created for DOCKS en Seine, by architects Jakob+MacFarlane, the elements in this beautifully designed signage system by French designer Nicolas Vrignaud, wrap around the existing concrete structure.

Not quite a tent, or a caravan or a motor home, Opera, so called because of it’s resemblance to Sydney Opera House, is a mobile holiday home that allows you to stay in the most beautiful places, but with the luxury of a wine cabinet, warm-air heating, espresso bar and an enclosed teak veranda.

Designed by Belgian architect Axel Enthoven, this nomadic, contemporary living tent, handmade and fitted out with materials including hardwood, stainless steel and leather, offers the quality of a luxury yacht combined with the outdoor feeling of camping under canvas.

Trigger Point mouldings by haptic design consultants, Touchy Feely, are rounded fibrous plaster forms that can be integrated into a wall surface. As suggestive protrusions, the mouldings encourage heightened, physical interactions between bodies and architectural surfaces, and suggest that buildings can perform, or intimate towards the necessary work of massage therapists.

Heating elements inserted into the backs of the plaster protrusions warm the forms to body temperature and assist in muscle tension relief. As warmed wall areas, the protrusions create a gentle threshold between body and building.
