Loving the coolness of this minimal and monolithic family house in reinforced concrete, located in the Swiss Alpine village of Lumino and designed by the Lugano based studio, Davide Macullo Architetto.

With robust geometry hinting towards that of industrial equipment and constructed from robust materials such as rubber, metal and cement, the Tool lighting range, by Diesel, in collaboration with Foscarini, brings to mind the building site and the mechanic’s garage.

Regular readers of this blog will know I love lighting and in particular retro-modern lamps, so it will be no surprise that I am a frequent visitor to purveyors of reclaimed lighting, SkinFlint Design.
On mooching around their website this morning, this twin table lamp, circa 1950, really caught my eye. I need this beautiful lamp on my work desk!


‘Chords’ pendant light, by Japanese designer Teruhiro Yanagihara, is constructed from two steel discs, each with a single bend at a chord line, to form a multifaceted lampshade with a completely different appearance from every angle.
