One of the most evident symmetries in modern cosmology is the fact that the Milky Way – that is, the plane of our galaxy – is tilted almost exactly 60° with respect to the ecliptical or plane of our solar system (indicated horizontally in the image). Each year on the winter solstice, the Sun crosses the galaxy through its center, as shown in the image.
